Date and time: 5 days in total 7th-9th March and 15th-16th March 2025 0900hrs start each day. 1700hrs finish each day Location: Aurora Sea school, Sea End Boat house, Burnham on Crouch, Essex, CM0 8AN Information: Take your boating knowledge to the next level with Aurora Sea Schools Day Skipper Theory Course. Our RYA certified course is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence needed to take on your next boating adventure. From navigation to safety procedures, we cover all the essential topics to make sure you are fully prepared. Join us and become a confident skipper today. Previous Knowledge/Experience None essential but some boating experience is desirable. Age: There is no minimum or maximum age limit, but under 18 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian. What’s included RYA student pack comprising practice charts, Day Skipper Course Notes booklet, and RYA Exercises. Tea coffee is included but lunch is not. What will I need to bring? 1. A notebook and pens to make notes along with 2b pencils and a rubber for chart work 2. A set of marine dividers (at least 8inch) of a type with tightening screw, 3. A Portland Course Plotter or other Course Plotter NB: I have plenty of the above you can borrow, its just if you want your own you need to bring them. Course Structures: This course will be run over 5 days. During the final day of the course you will sit two formal written assessments, one on navigation and the other a general paper covering, seamanship, meteorology and the collision regulations. You may also have to complete homework during the course. If you are uncomfortable with sitting any formal assessments, please speak to us before the course. we will do everything we can to facilitate your needs. This course introduces the skills necessary to: • Navigate in coastal waters using; - position fixing, plotting a course to steer, estimating your position, tidal heights and streams, passage planning, pilotage, electronic navigation using GPS and Chart Plotters. • Identify the use and type of knots used in seamanship, types of construction, parts and equipment on yachts or motor cruisers • Be aware of safety equipment and procedures such as distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, life jackets and life rafts • Recognise action to be taken under the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea • Find sources of weather information and act upon the forecast We look forward to meeting you, Dawn Smith
